Videogame bargains in Cyprus?

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Is that possible? This morning Micromania had a games bazaar at their Nicosia store and had some really good deals. I managed to get 13 games for 120 Euros including Saboteur (360), Little Big Planet (PS3) and Trauma Center (Wii) for just Euros5 each. When you also consider that 1 of them was Euros40 that leaves Euros80 for 12.

Games shops should do these more often to clear out unsold games and also to attract customers (like myself) who usually find their bargains online.

Books

Anger, frustration, shock, sadness and shame.

I’ve read Shake Hands with the Devil by the Canadian Lt Colonel Romeo Dallaire. He was the military commander of the Force Command of the UN in Rwanda during the genocide in 1994. It is his testimony of  what his experience during the events that led to 800.000 people dying in 100 days.

This book will put your life in perspective.

I also recommend watching Hotel Rwanda which tells the story of a Rwandan hotel manager during the madness.

Memories fade and history repeats itself

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

I am reading The Great Crash 1929 by John Kenneth Galbraith and in the first paragraph of his foreword to the 1975 edition he writes the following:

“There is merit in keeping alive the memory of those days (1929). For it is neither public regulation nor the improving moral tone of corporate promoters, brokers, customer’s men, market operations, bankers, and mutual fund managers which prevents these recurrent outbreaks and their aftermath. It is the recollection of how, on some past occasion, illusion replaces reality and people got rimmed.”
